Recent changes

SPACEWatch 6 is the current version of SPACEWatch Desktop, Server and Enterprise Editions. This is a major version update. Click a screenshot on the left to see it in action. Updating your installation

To update your SPACEWatch installation:

• Download the most recent software
• Uninstall your current installation (Settings - Add/Remove Programs)
• Run the downloaded program and follow the on-screen instructions - remember to install SPACEWatch into the same location (e.g. C:\Program Files\SPACEWatch)

System Requirements

SPACEWatch pro is a Windows application and is supported on Windows 2000, 2003 and XP. There are no special hardware requirements, however SPACEWatch pro is a database application, so for optimum performance we recommend more than minimum memory for the Windows version you are using.

For full function on Netware networks you will need a Novell Client. For full function on IBM Lotus networks you will need a Lotus Notes 5.0.2b or later client.

Change History

You can check your version by looking on the Help - About window or using Explorer to display the properties of swatch.exe and clicking on the Version tab. The table below tells you a little about recent updates to SPACEWatch. Click on the diamonds to see more detail about a particular release. If you have a licence for SPACEWatch you can download and install any minor version updates without buying a new licence - simply download the software from this site:

			ASHE-6WYNH6	Tree Summary: your filter preference will now be remembered between each use of this tool.
			ASHE-6WYNJM	Enterprise Edition and above: If you fail to auto-connect to a database once the auto-connect flag will be removed and you will need to manually connect to a database.
			ASHE-6WYNKC	Enterprise Edition and above: major enhancements to the SPACEWatch Task Manager including addition of Automated Storage Management features and the ability to create Sequence Tasks.
			ASHE-6WYNMZ	File Finder: you can now search on various file properties, including more advanced properties such as "unused" or "new", and filesystem-specific features such as reparse point links as used by Microsoft Remote Storage Service. Link files point to the actual location of the file data, rather than containing it. You can also choose to ignore files with various properties and use any of these criteria in your SPACEWatch Virtual Folder definitions.
			ASHE-6WYNNT	Enterprise Edition and above: a new, separately licenced, feature called Automated Storage Management. ASM allows you to automate various file actions on sets of files you define. These sets of files can be dynamically defined and actions can include archive - where files are moved to other storage and links to their new location left in their place. The archive feature includes the ability to remove file duplication and ensure that all links point to a single copy of the file that was previously duplicated. ASM is managed via the new SPACEWatch Task Manager.
			ASHE-6WYNPN	File Finder: files whose data have been migrated to other locations, e.g. as part of an HSM service such as Windows RSS, will now be specifically highlighted in File Finder results. For this feature to operate you must have the "Size on Disk" column visible.
			ASHE-6WYNQB	Enterprise Edition and above: if you specify a database connection file in the command line or a Task Manager task without a path, the location will now default to "My Documents\SPACEWatch" ("Documents\SPACEWatch" on Windows Vista).
			ASHE-6WYNRR	Enterprise Edition and above: an improved approach to data collection can now speed up this task significantly - particularly on Netware systems.
			ASHE-6WYNSQ	File Finder and Reports: you can now export data straight to CSV (comma seperated value) format e.g. for use with Excel. This format results in lightning quick export for very large results sets.
			ASHE-6WYNHN	Enterprise and above: an obscure issue with deleting old directories in the SQL space database has been addressed.
			ASHE-6WYNJ6	Enterprise Edition and above: the order of preference has been changed between database auto-connect and data file loading via the command line. Specifying a data file will now take precedence.
			ASHE-6WYNQP	Directory Finder: Occasional instability when switching between tree and flat views has been corrected.
			ASHE-6WYNR4	Storage Tool: the exceptions level has now been set to "80% used" by default.
			ASHE-6WYNT9	Minor fixes to the user interface for the main window collection task pane.
